Emergency workers help an injured passenger after a bus carrying mostly British tourists collided with a transport truck on Thursday near Norland, Ont. (Jason Bain/The Lindsay Post/Canadian Press)At least 11 people were taken to hospital after a tour bus full of scouts from England and a transport truck collided in south central Ontario Thursday afternoon, police said.
At least one of the injured was listed in serious condition following the crash that occurred on Highway 35 north of Lindsay at 1:19 p.m. The bus was on its way to Toronto from Haliburton.
"They hit basically head-on," OPP Const. Mark Bolleau told CBC News. "The bus ended up in the west ditch."
He said 11 people were transported by ambulance to hospital.
Bolleau said 36 people from England were on the bus, with their ages ranging from 14 to 21.
Police said the cause of the crash is not yet known.
A stretch of the highway was expected to be closed for almost 10 hours.
