Former OSC head to probe RCMP pension allegations

The federal government has named a former chairman of the Ontario Securities Commission to head an investigation into allegations of corruption surrounding the RCMP pension and insurance plans.
David Brown will have access to experts and can recommend a full judicial inquiry in his report, due by June 15.David Brown, shown in a 2004 photo, has until June 15 to complete his report.

Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day said public confidence in Canada's national institutions is of critical importance.
The appointment comes after high-ranking RCMP officials told the Commons public accounts committee March 28 there were accounting irregularities in the Mounties' pension and insurance plans and attempts to get to the bottom of the problems were stymied by top officials in the force, including former commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli.
As former chairman and chief executive officer of the Ontario Securities Commission, Brown brings significant expertise in securities regulations and audits to his new role.
In a statement, he called the RCMP "an important institution for Canada and Canadians."
