The Supreme Court of Canada won't hear Holocaust denier Ernst Zundel's claim that he was unlawfully detained in Canada.

As is usual in leave-to-appeal cases, the court gave no reasons for its ruling.

Zundel was held for two years in solitary confinement in a Toronto jail before being deported to Germany in 2005.

He had sought $10 million in damages for what he argued was unlawful detention and deportation from Canada.

In February, a German court convicted Zundel of 14 counts of incitement of racial hatred and sentenced him to five years in prison. It's the maximum sentence allowed under German law for denying the Holocaust.

Zundel, 67, spent about four decades in Canada before Ottawa deported him to Germany in 2005. He was ruled a threat to national security because of his connection with white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups.

A well-known Holocaust denier, Zundel operated a Nazi propaganda publishing house from Canada and wrote for a website that questioned the Holocaust.
