"We're both so profoundly happy," Trudeau, son of the late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, told the Canadian entertainment television show eTalk Daily on Tuesday. "Each of us have been waiting for this moment all our lives."
Grégoire-Trudeau told the television show she is 3½ months pregnant, and the baby is due in October.
"Family is so important to us," she said. "We're taking this one step at a time. This is a real reason to celebrate."
Grégoire-Trudeau is the Quebec correspondent for eTalk Daily.
Her husband announced in February that he wants to run for the Liberals in the next federal election. He was thrust in the public spotlight in 2000 when he gave a eulogy at his father's funeral.
Trudeau and his wife met in their hometown of Montreal in 2003 and wed in 2005.
Trudeau's brother, Alexandre (Sacha) Trudeau, and his partner Zoe Bedos welcomed a son in December, and named the boy Pierre-Emmanuel Trudeau.
