The final tally isn't in yet, but officials say all signs point to a record-breaking night in Halifax after about 3,000 people went barhopping across the city's downtown Friday night.
The event, dubbed the World's Largest Pub Crawl, was organized by a marketing firm to beat the previous world record set by 2,237 drinkers in Maryborough, a city in the Australian state of Queensland, last June.

Pub crawlers taking part in the Halifax bar-hopping festivities split into 19 groups, visiting five bars each. Police had extra patrols on duty for the evening.
Organizers plan to donate the proceeds from the pub crawl to a charity, which has yet to be named.
Being in the Guinness World Records book was too good to pass up for Kevin Clark, manager of Peddler's Pub, one of 26 bars included on the pub crawl itinerary.
"It's a good idea, you know. It promotes our business. It shows our cheap drinks. It shows how much fun it is for people to enjoy themselves without any problems."

By most accounts, there weren't many glitches in the massive pub crawl. Expectations were high. Tickets had been sold out for weeks. There weren't even issues with long lineups.
Of course no pub crawl would be complete without someone getting tossed in the drunk tank.
Giuseppe Ciccolonni watched as police handcuffed his roommate.
"People were jumping on cars. There was a dent," he told CBC. "Police happened to be at the right place at the right time."
