A nude statue that created controversy in Penticton, B.C., has been sold to a local winery.

Sculptor Michael Hermesh sold The Baggage Handler to Red Rooster Winery in the Okanagan Valley, where it is set up in the courtyard.

The 2.2-metre statue, which shows a naked man carrying a briefcase, was removed from Penticton's traffic circle in February after being vandalized.

Vandals knocked over suitcases that are part of the installation, ripped out lights, and lopped off the end of the male figure's penis.

Drivers complained the nude was distracting and a metal plate was bolted to the front of the statue to cover its genitalia.

Hermesh says he's recovered from the trauma of having his artwork vandalized and is pleased the statue, called "Frank," has a new home.

The vineyard owners say the statue will eventually be moved inside the winery, but will first spend some time overlooking Okanagan Lake from its place in the courtyard.
