An anti-abortion activist in New Brunswick will stand trial in October on three counts of withholding taxes from the Canada Revenue Agency.

David Little pleaded not guilty to the offences during a court appearance in Fredericton on Wednesday, though he acknowledges not paying his taxes in a protest against publicly funded abortions.

Little says he won't file a tax return until the Canada Health Act is changed, or the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is amended to recognize the right to live for the unborn.

In a news conference before his court appearance, Little claimed to be the first person in Canada to ever challenge the federal government for a constitutional misuse of tax money.

He said he doesn't want his taxes used for something that violates his belief that abortion is murder.

"Every single penny we give to this government becomes tainted with the innocent blood of aborted children," Little said. "Every single penny!"

According to the Canada Revenue Agency, it's been six years since Little paid his income taxes.

He won't say how much money he's earned in that period of time, but he says he's been getting financial assistance from "wealthy benefactors" who support his cause.

The case goes to trial on Oct. 4.
