Walter Neubrand was taking the cup to Fort St. John, B.C., the hometown of Tampa Bay Lightning head scout Jake Goertzen. Each Stanley Cup-winning team member gets the cup for one day.
But as Neubrand and Goertzen waited at the city's airport, the cup – in its custom travel container – didn't show up.
"Everybody's bag was there, except the cup," Goertzen told the Alaska Highway News.

Following a search of the Air Canada flight, Neubrand learned the 16-kilogram cup had been removed from the flight in Vancouver because of weight restrictions.
Goertzen says Air Canada agents in Vancouver had been informed Neubrand was travelling with the cup.
A distraught Neubrand, one of three keepers who accompany the cup on its celebration journey, headed to a local hotel to wait for the cup to be flown to Fort St. John on Monday morning.
Goertzen said two private viewings of the cup had to be cancelled and one public event cut short because of the incident.
