Virk was 14 when she was killed in 1997, after a swarming by a gang of teenagers. Ellard has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.
Earlier in the week a witness told the court Ellard admitted not only to killing Reena Virk, but also to being happy about it. Another witness testified she heard Ellard say she was going after Virk and watched as she followed the injured victim across a bridge.
On Thursday, the audio testimony of another witness was played for this Jury. Taken from an earlier proceeding it features the statement of a young woman who has since died. Her identity is still protected under the Young Offenders Act. She was charged and convicted in connection with the case.

In a clear voice the young woman tells the court that Ellard, who was a friend, admitted to the killing. She says Ellard told her she followed Virk across the Craigflower Bridge in Victoria. Her intention was to pretend to help Virk. But, she says Ellard told her, " I felt I had to go back and finish everything, otherwise she would rat everyone out."
The girl testified Ellard told her she broke Virk's arms and legs before holding her underwater until she drowned.
On Friday the court will hear testimony from a young man who was also there the evening Reena Virk was killed.
