Police lawsuit against Toronto Star dismissed

The association sued the Star over a series of articles that said blacks were generally treated more harshly by Toronto police.
The police lawyer argued the articles libelled all of the 7,200 members of the force as racist, and asked for $2.7 billion in damages.
A judge ruled it wasn't reasonable to conclude that the series applied to every officer or any particular officer.
The newspaper obtained the Toronto police arrest database for the past six years through the Access to Information Act.
The Star's analysis found that blacks charged with drug possession received rougher treatment than white people charged with the same offence.
The analysis also claimed that a disproportionate number of blacks were given citations for offences arising from traffic stops.
