Families of two Ontario girls killed by Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka more than a decade ago say they want all copies of a new a book about Homolka destroyed.

A French-language version of the book appeared in November. An English-language version appeared last week.

Lawyer Tim Danson says some photographs that appear in Karla: A Pact with the Devil violate a publication ban.

One of those pictures shows "Jane Doe," an unidentified rape victim of Homolka and Bernardo. A court ban prevents publication of pictures of the woman, who was raped but not murdered.

Danson accuses author Stephen Williams of violating that ban. He says while the picture in the book has a black bar through her face, "Jane Doe is clearly identifiable in this photograph."

Danson says the families of teenagers Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French thought all photographs and videotapes of the crimes had been destroyed more than a year ago.

Danson says old wounds were reopened with the publication of Williams' book last November. The book was published in French because the author could not find an English-language publisher.

"How do we know that there aren't other photographs out there?" he asked. "When does the indignity and violence stop?"

Kristen French's mother Donna also blasted the book.

"The fact that there are pictures in this book that Mr. Williams should never have had is extremely upsetting," she said.

Danson wants police to seize all copies of the book. He also made an appeal to bookstore owners.

"The Mahaffy and French families plead, plead with the owners of every bookstore in Canada and elsewhere to voluntarily remove Mr. Williams' book from their bookshelves," he said.
