A man accused of killing seven people in two drug-related attacks in B.C. several years ago made a brief court appearance on Thursday.

Robert Bruce Moyes is charged with seven counts of first-degree murder. At his court appearance he was remanded in custody until Aug. 22.

The 47-year-old man from Victoria has spent most of his adult life in prison.

Security was exceptionally tight in the Abbotsford courthouse. Court spectators were frisked for weapons.

Moyes has been charged with the murders of a couple in Burnaby, and five people in Abbotsford.

Eugene Uyeyama and his wife, Michelle, were killed in their Burnaby home in 1995.

Five people ranging in ages from 30 to 70 were found dead on a rural property in Abbotsford in 1996.

The charges are the result of a joint operation between RCMP, and Abbotsford and Vancouver police.
