Two men who attacked Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Stephane Dion with cream pies have been found guilty of assault.

Patrick Robert and Benoit Foisy have been given six-month suspended sentences for the May 1999 creaming.

The judge also told each man to perform 50 hours of community work and to stay away from Dion.

Robert and Foisy attacked Dion when the minister was serving food at a local soup kitchen. At their one-day trial last month, Robert argued it wasn't a case of assault. He said the minister wasn't hurt.

The judge says the pair had criminal intent.

Robert and Foisy are part of a Montreal group known as Les entarteurs. Members target people they consider overly self-important.

Dion is one of many people hit with cream pies. International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew, former premier Jacques Parizeau, Montreal Mayor Pierre Bourque and actor Sylvester Stallone have all tasted the wrath of Les entarteurs.
