An 18-year-old has been found guilty of the brutal killing of Reena Virk. Warren Glowatski was convicted Wednesday in a Victoria courtroom of second-degree murder.

Glowatski was 16 when the attack happened. The Crown won its application to have the case tried in adult court. Another suspect, 16-year-old Kelly Ellard, is also facing a murder trial. That trial is scheduled to open in Vancouver in November. She will also be tried as an adult.

Six teenage girls have already been convicted on lesser charges.

Glowatski's trial brought to light the circumstances surrounding Virk's murder: the first vicious attack on her by Glowatski and a group of female teenagers, and the second beating by Glowatski and a girl.

Glowatski testified that he kicked Virk, but did not kill her.

"On the whole, Warren Glowatski's evidence was conveniently incomplete and improbable," said Justice Malcolm Macaulay in handing down the verdict. "I did not believe him."

Reena Virk was 14 when her beaten and battered body was pulled from a tidal pool in Victoria in November 1997.

Glowatski is automatically sentenced to life in prison, but because he was 16 when the crime took place, he will be eligible to apply for parole in seven years.
