Constituency profile:
This rural area located in south-central Saskatchewan has an economy based primarily on mixed farming and ranching. It is also home to the potash mine in Belle Plaine, among the largest producing potash solution mines in the world. The town of Caronport is home to three Christian schools: the Caronport High School, Briarcrest Biblical Seminary and Briarcrest Bible College. Lumsden and Pense are bedroom communities, with many residents commuting to work in Regina.

Political History:
The boundaries were shifted for the 2003 election to include some polls previously part of Arm River and Regina Qu'Appelle Valley.
Lyle Stewart retained this seat in 2007, defeating New Democrat Larry Hall by a wide margin of 3,523 votes. It was Stewart's third win, after first taking the seat in 1999. Stewart is a founding member of the Saskatchewan Party.
