Six injured in Hull tornado

The cleanup is under way in Hull Quebec. A small tornado touched down Saturday tearing off roofs, smashing telephone poles and overturning cars.

Six people suffered minor injuries.

The twister hit the city centre in the late afternoom and swept through an industrial district. Some buildings were pulled off their foundations and trucks were moved by the force of the wind funnel, which lasted five minutes.

The tornado knocked down part of a wall at a shopping centre and shattered a large window at a fast food restaurant. Four people inside the restaurant were injured by flying glass.

About 10,000 of Hull's 65,000 residents were without electricity because of downed power lines. All of the residents have had power restored.

Hull Police Lieut. Yves Martel estimated the damage to the city will be in the $2 million range.
