Shrubsall found guilty of beating store clerk
A jury has found William Chandler Shrubsall guilty of robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a baseball bat in the commission of a crime.
The 29-year-old New York native was on trial for a February 1998 beating and robbery at a Halifax sweater store.
Tammy Donnison nearly died after she was robbed and clubbed on the head with a baseball bat two years ago. Inside the courtroom Friday, Donnison's supporters cheered after hearing the verdict.
"She was very brave, very composed, very articulate," said Crown prosecutor Paul Carver. "Her reaction I think was one of joy that this finding had been made."
William Shrubsall's prior convictions:
- He was convicted of stalking his ex-girlfriend.
- He was convicted of sexually assaulting, wounding and robbing a stranger.
- He was convicted of sexually assaulting a seventeen year old in 1996 in the U.S.
- When he was 17, he plead guilty to beating his mother to death with a baseball bat in New York.
