Teen seriously injured outside of Saskatoon school

Saskatoon police are investigating the assault of a teenage boy on Tuesday which resulted in serious injuries.

Police believe Bishop Murray assault wasn't random

Saskatoon police say a 15-year-old boy was beaten with a weapon outside Bishop Murray High School Tuesday afternoon.

Police say it's unlikely the assault was random.

Police arrived at the school just after 3 p.m. CST. He was brought to hospital with serious injuries.

Saskatoon Police Service spokesperson Alyson Edwards says it appears the teen was a target.

"It's a concern for us," she said. "Obviously it's a concern for the people who know this young man and the community at large. Although, I don't think anybody needs to be concerned that it is a random attack. We don't have evidence of that, but certainly, it's early on in the investigation."

Edwards wouldn't say much about the condition of the teen, who remains in hospital, but does say it was a brutal attack.

"I think the fact that Major Crimes is investigating it would indicate the level of seriousness of the victim's injuries," she said.

Edwards said eyewitnesses saw a male suspect fleeing from the scene in a vehicle. It's possible other people may have been involved in the attack.
