Physics professor says sounds are likely caused by cold weather sound distortion

Some have said the noise sounds like a snowplow from hell, or alien.

Earlier this month, Ernie Werezek woke-up to the sound of loud screeching noises outside his home. He recorded the sounds and posted them on YouTube.

Jean-Pierre St. Maurice is a Canada Research Chair in Environmental Sciences and a professor of physics. He says the noise is likely caused by sound distorting in cold weather.

He spoke to Saskatoon Morning host Leisha Grebinski about the science behind the sounds.
