Saskatoon firefighters battle morning house fire, cold
Flexing floor kept fire crews outside, fighting fire in -35 C weather
An early morning house fire in Saskatoon had to be fought from the outside because of issues with the home's structure.
Firefighters say they arrived at the smoking house on the 1200 block of Idylwyld Drive North shortly before 4:30 a.m. CST. Crews were initially able to get inside, but later decided the floor was close to collapsing.
Instead they had to fight the fire from outside while the weather dipped to -35 C with wind chill values feeling as cold as -49, according to Environment Canada's hourly weather data.
Nobody was hurt in the fire. Investigators are at the scene working on finding out the cause of the blaze.
