Sask. couple hailed as heroes for saving woman's life
Police say the pair prevented her from falling into South Saskatchewan River
Saskatoon police are calling a Saskatchewan couple heroes after they prevented a distraught woman from jumping into the South Saskatchewan River.
The couple were strolling along University Bridge Friday night when they spotted a woman who had crawled over the railing and was holding on to the edge.
The man tried to persuade the woman to climb back, while the woman called 911.
Police said when the woman let go, the man grabbed her, preventing her fall. Officers arrived shortly after.
They said the woman had walked away from the psychiatric ward at nearby Royal University Hospital.
Police said the couple's actions were instrumental in saving the woman's life.
