Selena Bethune thought it was a house on fire.

Bethune and her daughter, Kira Neimor, were walking down Gray Avenue in Forest Grove just before 7 a.m. CST when they saw smoke billowing from a stand of trees near Rayner Avenue and 115th Street. There is a condominium complex on that block.

"We were walking to the 7-Eleven and I thought maybe it was a house on fire, so I called 911," Bethune said.

Kira Neimor said that, when they got closer, they realized it was an SUV on fire.

'The gas tank blew and there were chunks blowing all over the tracks.' - Kira Neimor

"The gas tank blew and there were chunks blowing all over the railway tracks. It sounded like firecrackers popping," she said.

"We saw the seats melting."

Neimor said she saw two little boys running away from the burning Grand Cherokee. Bethune said that she saw another two teens head off in another direction.

Police and fire crews were both on the scene. They had the fire out in minutes.

It's still under investigation.
