The potash company Mosaic laid of 51 workers in Saskatchewan on Monday.

The potash company Mosaic is blaming weaker than hoped for demand for its decision to pare 51 jobs in Saskatchewan.

Affected workers at Mosaic's office in Regina, and mines in Belle Plaine, Colonsay and Esterhazy were sent home Monday morning.

The company said the cuts are permanent.

Mosaic said demand for its product is lagging behind the industry's recently expanded production here in the province.

The jobs lost account for less than two per cent of Mosaic's work force in Saskatchewan.
