An elderly Saskatoon man who had been missing since late Tuesday night has been found alive, and driving his car east of the city limits.

Around 6:40 a.m. CST, the 78-year-old man was located near the intersection of Zimmerman Road and 8th Street East.

Police said they found him after getting calls from passersby that a car was in a slough east of the city.

Officers could not locate the slough when they reached the area, but found the man driving around in his Honda Accord.

"There were indications it had been in a slough," police spokeswoman Kelsie Fraser said.

It's believed he may have become stuck at some point, but was able to extricate himself, she said.

It's not known how long he might have been there.

Police said the man has health issues and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
