Company pleads guilty to charge under provincial law

A Saskatoon company must pay a $42,000 fine after pleading guilty to an accident that left a worker dead at its property in 2011.

KWH Pipe (Canada) Ltd. of Saskatoon pleaded guilty to one charge under occupation health and safety legislation . Four additional charges against the company were stayed.

The accident happened on October 25, 2011. The worker was fatally injured when crushed by a bundle of plastic pipe. The company had violated a safety clause that stipulated no material should be placed, stacked or stored in hazardous fashion.

The company was fined $30,000, with a $12,000 surcharge.
