The SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival is a 10 day musical adventure set to open Friday so it's time to make your plans and pick up your tickets.
This year's festival kicks off with Saskatchewan born guitar hero Colin James. This man can play it all. He has crossed genres seamlessly from blues to swing and big band to easy listening. He plays Friday night in the Bessborough Gardens.
The weekend fun continues with main stage acts like electro-pop stars Metric (Saturday) and reggae master Ziggy Marley (Sunday).
There are plenty of big names from pop music in the lineup but tried and true jazz fans won't have to look to far to satisfy their craving. Acts like the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and The John Scofield Uberjam will pay tribute to the festival's roots at the Broadway Theatre.
For a more mellow, indie vibe, check out the smaller venues. Places like Vangelis, Amigos Cantina and Village Guitar & Amp will feature artists who are just starting to break out on the Canadian music scene.
That's just the opening weekend. The jazz festival runs until July 1st.
