Homeowner foils break in
Saskatoon man fights off suspect
A Saskatoon man was taken to hospital early this morning, after he stopped an intruder who tried to break into his home in the Brevoort Park neighbourhood on the city’s east side.
It happened in the 1800 block of Madden Avenue, just after midnight.
In a news release, police said the 47-year-old man heard noises in the backyard. He got up to investigate and found that another man was trying to force his way into the home through the backdoor.
The two men struggled, and eventually the suspect took off. Police arrived and were able to track the man down a few blocks away. Police said that a K-9 unit was able to track the man’s scent from the home, directly to the area where the suspect was arrested.
A 21-year-old Saskatoon man is now facing a number of charges including attempted break in, assault, threats and assaulting a peace officer. He’s due in court Monday.
The man who stopped the break in at his home was taken to the hospital with what police described as non life-threatening injuries.
