Fire damages Saskatoon home

A fire broke out Thursday night in a west side home near Saskatoon's SIAST campus.

Officials don't know what caused west side fire

Fire officials don’t know the cause of a fire that ripped through the basement of a home on Idylwyld Drive Thursday night in Saskatoon causing about $5,000 in damage.

Fire fighters were called to a home in the 1100 block of Idylwyld Drive, across the street from Saskatoon’s SIAST campus, around 10:07 p.m. CST. They found thick heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home.  

Crews entered the home and found a fire in the basement. They were able to quickly knock the flames down and the fire was under control within 15 minutes.

According to a news release, there was no one home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries.

Two cats were found in the basement. However, only one survived.
