High winds and dropping temperatures are setting the stage for a frigid weekend.
According to Environment Canada, a mass of cold arctic air surging into the province is going to make it very cold this weekend.
"While winds will diminish during the day, there is little reprieve from the cold in store today as temperatures will at best hold steady before falling even further tonight," the weather agency predicts.
"Overnight low temperatures into Saturday will fall to near -40 C in most areas, where even a slight wind will generate wind chill values below -50."
MD Ambulance is also releasing an extreme cold weather alert. It warns that, with these winds and temperatures, frostbite can occur within minutes to exposed skin.
