City may tap into reserves to pare deficit to $1 million

Council will be asked to tap into reserves to cut 2013 deficit.

Council will hear about costs of clearing last winter's snow at meeting tonight

When city councillors meet tonight, they'll be asked to tap into reserves, to pare down the deficit.

Shifting that money would still leave the city with a net deficit of just more than $1 million dollars from last year.

The city's total budget was about $810 million.

Officials blame the heavy snow last winter for the budget problems. The snow came early, often and piled on streets and boulevards. The city spent millons more than expected clearing streets, sanding and removing the snow.
