Loon Lake man faces firearms charges, assault of police officer with a weapon
RCMP have laid charges against a 27-year-old man in connection with a standoff at the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation last week.
The incident began around noon on May 12 after a man entered a home in a residential area on the First Nation with a firearm.
A Loon Lake, Sask., man is facing four firearms-related charges, as well as assault of a police officer with a weapon, resisting arrest and being unlawfully in a dwelling.
Police blocked off the area and the nearby Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation School and Ernie Studer School enacted its hold and secure policy.
School activities went on as usual but no one was allowed to enter or leave.
At the end of the school day, arrangements were made so that students were able to leave safely.
The incident ended later that evening.
He is in custody and will appear by closed circuit video in Loon Lake court on May 25.
