BHP Billiton has signed a deal to involve three First Nations in the economic opportunities around its Jansen potash mine project, just east of Saskatoon.

The "opportunities agreement" is expected to address concerns raised by the First Nations that they were being excluded from the multi-billion dollar development.

The company signed the deal with the Kawacatoose, Day Star and Muskowegan First Nations.

The deal offers assistance for building First Nation businesses by giving entrepreneurs and community-owned business development access to opportunities on the project.
