Police in Regina have arrested a man suspected of scamming would-be apartment renters in Saskatoon.

Jason Hartlen, 33, was taken into custody in Regina Thursday without incident, according to police.

Police in Saskatoon said they received 25 complaints from people who attempted to rent a property from Hartlen in the 800 block of Kingsmere Boulevard in Saskatoon. The properties had been listed on the local Kijiji website, an online classified ads service.

According to police, the vicitms said they met with Hartlen who claimed to be renting the apartment. He then allegedly defrauded the complainants of approximately $1,000 each after accepting damage deposits.

Hartlen has been remanded in Regina and was expected to stay in that city over the weekend. He will appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court early next week.
