A survival guide to summer programs for Sask. parents

What do you do when your child is out of daycare but can't stay home alone?

No daycare? No problem. There are plenty of day camps to keep your kids busy.

Summer holidays are almost here.

Along with all the excitement of summer fun comes a major headache for parents.

What do you do when your child is out of daycare but can't stay home alone?

It's a question Erin Holcomb faces this summer. She has one child in daycare and her seven-year-old son, Carson, who still needs supervision and she has to work full-time.

"All kids go through routine withdrawal at the beginning of summer because school helps set that routine," Holcomb said. "In the summer, they don't have that. They have a smaller social network and they get bored so fast."

Avoiding the, 'I'm bored' response is somewhat of a specialty at the Boys & Girls Club of Saskatoon. The organization has a series of summer camps both in the city and at Pike Lake. Executive Director Wanda Desjardins said their goal is simple.

"Bottom line, we need to keep our kids safe," Desjardins said. "But while they are being kept safe, we need to give them opportunities to have a lot of fun, see new things, and we want our kids to want to come back."

From the YMCA to both of Saskatchewan's universities, city programming to museums and galleries, there's so many possibilities. That's why CBC has decided to help you out.
