Two Regina women, ages 37 and 55, are facing 44 charges related to the alleged sexual and physical assaults of two young girls.

The two women, whom police aren't naming because it would identify the girls, were scheduled to appear in Regina provincial court at 2 p.m. CST.

The charges include sexual assault with a weapon, physical assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual exploitation and the making and possession of child pornography.

It's alleged the abuse happened between Jan. 1 and 18. The girls are ages 10 and 11.

Police said they began investigating after receiving a call on Jan. 14.

The investigation determined that two adults in the home were criminally involved, the police said.

The girls are still receiving medical and mental care and are no longer in contact with the two women.
