The body found at a landfill in Yorkton on Wednesday is that of a woman estimated to be about 50, the RCMP said Thursday.

The woman's remains were found just before noon at the dump northeast of Regina.

"Investigators believe that they have a name to the deceased. However, there has been no positive identification yet," said Sgt. Will Marion of the Yorkton rural detachment.

The woman's name won't be released until her identity has been confirmed through lab tests, he said.

An autopsy is being conducted Thursday in Regina.
