Following a weekend where public intoxication kept North Battleford, Sask. Mounties busy, a 19-year-old woman accused of biting a police officer has been charged with assault.

Police say they got a call about two people causing a disturbance on Railway Avenue East. The woman and another woman, 28, were arrested for being drunk in public.

Early Monday morning, while the 19-year-old was being put in jail, she allegedly bit an officer in the arm.

She was scheduled to appear in court the same morning.

The Battlefords RCMP detachment said it received more 60 calls for service or reports of occurrences over the weekend. Twenty-two people were arrested over the three days.

At least 12 of the calls involved impaired driving or public drunkenness.
