A woman has died in Regina after being hit by a delivery truck.

Police and emergency crews were on the scene of the accident Wednesday morning near Toronto Street and Victoria Avenue, in the city's core area.

The woman was later identified as Ann Benesh, 74.

The vehicle that struck her was a four-tonne truck.

The accident happened around 8 a.m., when Benesh was crossing the street at a crosswalk.

The truck driver, a 60-year-old man, is believed to have continued driving after the accident but then returned to the scene, police said.

He was taken into custody and later released.

Charges haven't been laid, but the incident is under investigation, police said.
