Saskatchewan's already-low unemployment rate fell even lower last month.

According to Statistics Canada's monthly labour force report released Friday, there were 3,000 more people employed in April than March.

Across Canada, employment fell by 29,000.

At the same time, there were fewer people looking for work, pushing the unemployment rate down 1.1 percentage points to 3.4 per cent — the lowest in Canada.

It's also the lowest unemployment rate Saskatchewan has seen since comparable data became available in 1976, StatsCan says.

Compared with 12 months earlier, employment in Saskatchewan was up 8,300. All figures are seasonally adjusted.
