A teenage boy was killed Sunday night when the car he was a passenger in hit a deer, Greenwater RCMP said.

It happened on Highway 23 just west of Chelan, about 270 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon, at around 11:30 p.m. CST.

A 16-year-old boy died and the 19-year-old driver of the car was injured. The man was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.

It was the second fatal roadway accident in Saskatchewan on the weekend.

A 61-year-old Manitoba man died Saturday in a single-vehicle crash near North Battleford.

It happened shortly before 12 p.m. CST, on a rural road about 20 kilometres northeast of the city. The man was the only person in the car when it left the highway and rolled, the RCMP said.

According to police, weather and road conditions were not factors. Its appears the driver lost control, the RCMP said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police haven't released the names of the people who died, pending notification of family members.
