A teenager is facing a charge of first-degree murder over the death of Marina Thorpe, 64, who police say was fatally shot in Prince Albert.

The case began when police were called to an area near 15th Ave. E. and Helme Cres. around 9:30 p.m. CST on Sunday.

They were responding to a report of a woman in cardiac arrest outside of a home in the area and they initially said the woman's death was suspicious.

On Thursday, police said an autopsy revealed that the woman was fatally shot and the case was now a homicide investigation.

They said a male youth, under the age of 18, has been arrested and will appear in court Friday on the first-degree murder charge.

Police added the woman's death was not a random act of violence, noting the accused youth and the victim were known to each another.
