Fire officials in Regina say a blaze at a vacant and boarded-up house in the city is suspicious. The home is the same place that was recently linked to a homicide in a case with seven suspects.

Fire crews responded to the fire Thursday night on the 1600 Block of Toronto Street.

"Crews ripped boarded-up windows and doors to gain entry," the fire department said on its Twitter feed. "[The] fire is being treated as suspicious."

The Toronto Street home has been connected to a homicide reported in August when police found the body of Shawn Roderick Douglas, 54, in a rural area northeast of Regina.

Officials have not released much information on the case but part of their investigation took them to Toronto Street where officers found evidence connected to the homicide.

Seven people are facing charges of first-degree murder: five adult men and two teenage boys, 16 and 17.
