The City of Regina is showing its pride for Jon Ryan and the Super Bowl-bound punter is showing the love right back.

Ryan, who was born in Regina, played for the Regina Rams and is now a punter with the Seattle Seahawks.

He'll be the first athlete from this province to play in the Super Bowl. His team takes on the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Several sports apparel stores in the city told CBC News they've sold out of Seahawks merchandise in the runup to the big game.

The flag was a big deal, said his brother Steve, who attending the ceremony.

"Jon, like I said, is so close to this community and it's something that he's very proud of," Steve Ryan said.

"I know he's earned this and he's worked harder and he's done more to get to this goal than anyone."

Fifteen of Ryan's family members will be there in New Jersey Sunday cheering him on.
