A 29-year-old man is facing numerous charges after police received a complaint that he was holding several people hostage at gunpoint in North Battleford early Sunday morning.

The RCMP responded to a complaint of an armed man in a home near the outskirts of the city holding some people against their will at about 4:20 a.m. CST.

RCMP officers from the rural and municipal detachments responded to the call and surrounded the home. After a couple of hours on site, several officers went inside and arrested the man.

A firearm and other weapons were seized from the home, police said.

No one was injured.

Officers are now in the process of interviewing several people who were inside the home. Police said there were adults and children in the residence, but could not confirm if the initial report of a hostage situation was accurate. There is no word on what led to the incident.

The man is in police custody. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
