A citizen who went to the Regina police station to drop off items associated with explosives work — including blasting caps — led to a brief scare in the building Sunday.

Police said the citizen arrived around 1:30 p.m. CST Sunday with blasting caps and cords.

The people at the front desk determined the items could be dangerous, if mishandled.

So, a portion of the building was evacuated and the police explosives disposal unit was called in.

The experts took the items away and destroyed them in a safe place.

Things were back to normal at headquarters by around 2:45 p.m.

Police sent out a reminder to people that if anyone wants to dispose of items that could be explosive, they should leave them alone and call.

Transporting the items could be dangerous, police pointed out.
