Jaidan Lynn Slaferek died in a fall from a catwalk at the Conexus Arts Centre. (Facebook)The 17-year-old who died in a fall at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina a year ago had a blood alcohol content level that was between .30 and .37 per cent — about four times the legal limit for driving.
Information about the level of intoxication was submitted at the coroner's inquest that is examining the death of Jaidan Lynn Slaferek, who fell from a catwalk Jan. 15, 2012.
The inquest also learned, from a pathologist, that Slaferek died as a result of head injuries suffered in the fall.
The inquest, which began Monday, has been told that Slaferek was with a group of friends who snuck into an event at the centre and made their way to a restricted area.
The narrow catwalks above the stage were also very dark.
Rick Slaferek, the teen's father, said he hopes other parents will take notice of the dangers of underage drinking.
"You have to be strong and say no," he said. "There will be a time for them to drink alcohol. Don't let it destroy."
The jury on the inquest is expected to deliberate on the case Friday.
As it is a coroner's inquest, the jury will not assign blame, but will determine if there are recommendations to be made, to prevent a similar tragedy in the future.
