Motorists are encountering terrible road conditions in many parts of Saskatchewan — in some cases zero visibility — due to blowing snow.

Warnings cover much of the western half of the province, especially west of Saskatoon and Regina.

Travel is not recommended for a section of Highway 1 between Swift Current and Regina, and a portion of the highway between Regina and Moose Jaw was closed for part of Tuesday afternoon.

Other roads, including a section of Highway 2 north of Moose Jaw, were also closed to travel.

Emergency crews have been responding to reports of crashes, roll-overs and ditched cars.

The latest road information is available on the province's Highway Hotline site.

RCMP said officers were called to four crashes on Highway 11 between Disley and Bethune, including a jack-knifed semi.

They said roads were icy in that area.

There was also a fatal crash north of North Battleford Tuesday, although RCMP did not say if that was related to driving conditions.

In that crash, a 85-year-old man died when he collided with a propane truck on Highway 4, about three kilometres north of the city.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the truck driver.

No name was released.
