Respected elder Howard Cameron dies at 58

Howard Cameron, father of slain Mountie Robin Cameron, has died at 58. (CBC)Howard Cameron, a respected elder and the father of slain RCMP officer Robin Cameron has died at 58 from complications related to cancer.
Cameron was himself a retired Mountie.
Robin Cameron was shot and killed by Curtis Dagenais, along with another RCMP officer in 2006 near Spiritwood, Sask. A third officer was wounded.
Even in the face of such a tragedy, the elder Cameron spoke of his daughter's death without rancor.
"It would be so easy to be angry, be vengeful," he said. "That's a waste of good energy. Life's too short."
Cameron was from the Beardy's and Okemasis First Nation, north of Saskatoon.
A funeral is set for Saturday.
