A number of travel advisories were in place in southern and central Saskatchewan on Saturday as blowing snow led to reduced visibility on many highways.

According to Environment Canada, winds were gusting up to 70 km/h in many areas, although they began to calm down in the afternoon.

For most of the morning, travel was not recommended on all highways in the Regina and Moose Jaw areas, including a large section of Highway 1 between Regina and Swift Current. A number of vehicles slid into the ditch just west of Regina, including a large trailer.

At one point, RCMP advised drivers on Highway 11 to stay in their vehicles and not try to assist other motorists that may have driven off the road, because visibility was so poor.

By mid-afternoon, most of the travel advisories had been removed, although travel was still not recommended around North Battleford and Estevan.
