Watermain break disrupts Saskatoon traffic

Water gushed onto a Saskatoon street Wednesday afternoon, sending repair crews into high gear and motorists looking for alternate ways through the area.
The break, at Cumberland Avenue and 14th Street East, was reported around 4 p.m. CST.
Police said the road was impassable due to flooding.
Within about 30 minutes a work crew was on the scene.
Watermain breaks are often associated with aging infrastructure and stress from cold weather.
However, the cause of Wednesday's break was not immediately known.

(Ryan Pilon/CBC )Just a few hours before the watermain break, Saskatoon's mayor, Don Atchison, issued a news release saying he would be holding a news conference on Friday to talk about his top priorities for an upcoming convention of Saskatchewan urban municipalities.
According to the release, infrastructure investment from the province was a key issue.
